What do my ordinary days add up to?

Habits and focus. Most habits fail because they are too big or depend on remembering, not because the person lacks discipline. Small actions attached to something you already do, in surroundings that make them easy, tend to outlast ambitious plans.

Make it tiny10 min
  1. Choose one habit you want and shrink it until it takes under two minutes, such as reading one page or writing two sentences.
  2. Attach it to a routine you already have: “After I [current habit], I will [new habit].”
  3. Do the tiny version every day for two weeks, even when you could do more.
  4. Mark each day on a simple tracker. If you miss a day, start again the next day.
One protected focus block50 min
  1. Block 50 minutes in your calendar for one task that matters.
  2. Write the single outcome you want from the block on a sticky note.
  3. Put your phone in another room and close every tab you do not need.
  4. Work until the timer ends, then note what you finished and what got in the way.
Weekly reset20 min
  1. At the start of each week, look back at last week's calendar.
  2. Note what moved forward and what quietly ate your time.
  3. Choose three priorities for the coming week and no more.
  4. Give each priority a specific time slot in your calendar.
